The Confident Woman Book Review

Book number 2 for the year is complete! At this rate I might be able to read 24 books this year!

I give this book 3 out of 4 stars.

I can't admit to enjoying this book as much as the other two books I have reviewed this month, The Circle Maker and The Art of Mentoring. Actually, at times it was almost like a chore to push through and read the whole thing.

But in the few days since I have finished reading it I find myself thinking about and applying the wisdom from Joyce Meyer in the book. She talks a lot in the book about fear and how it is often the downfall of the confident woman. She gives practical and relevant ways of overcoming and dealing with fear.

Though this book was a little dry at times the wisdom in each chapter was exactly what I needed. It touches on everything from compassion, to fear, to self worth, to the calling on your life. This book also comes with a daily devotional that is great for morning quiet time. I actually like the devotional better than the book.

Next on my list: "HEaven is for Real"

Get out of the Boat

{:via:}

On my way to church yesterday morning the old song "Voice of Truth" by Casting Crowns came on the radio.

The first lyrics are:
 "Oh what I would do to have the kind of faith it takes climb out of this boat I'm in, on to the crashing waves. "

I've heard this song for years, but those first lyrics kept floating around in my head.
So often we are in our boat. The waves and winds are crashing against our boat and we have no idea what to do. But, all we end up doing is staying in our boat because it is our comfort zone. It is what we know. But all the while God is saying just get out of the boat, I'm here and I will make you walk on the very waves that were crashing against you because with me you are will always conquer the storm.

Wherever you are in life sooner or later {:if not now:} winds and waves are going to crash against your boat. When this happens muster every ounce of courage you have to get out of the boat and show God you are putting your faith in Him. Jesus will overcome, and already has overcome, every wind and wave that will ever come against your boat. It is always amazing what will happen when you take your life and in faith put it into God's hands.

Sunday Seven 1/27

Happy Sunday! I had so much time of this week that I have had a lot of time to pin.

Enjoy

{:Pinned Here:}
This pin says:
  "To straighten hair without heat, just mix a cup of water with 2 tablespoons of BROWN sugar, pour it into a spray bottle, then spray into damp hair and let air dry."
I'll have to try this and let you know.

{:Pinned Here:}
I think this will be my next wreath for the front door. Great for Easter and spring.

{:Pinned Here:}
Taco Pie

{:Pinned Here:}
How to paint a chevron pattern on a canvas.

{:Pinned Here:}
Washer and dryer on a stand with enough space to put laundry baskets underneath.
Dad???? ;)

{:Pinned Here:}
Could be done with yearly goals. Nice way to visually see your progress.

{:Pinned Here:}
If only they weren't $300...yes I checked

Have a fantastic week.

Necklace Makeover

One year while I was competing in Miss West Virginia I received this gem of a necklace.
{:Please note the sarcasm:}
It has been sitting around in my jewelry box for years until I decide to remake it.

It is literally so easy!

What you will need:
  • Necklace
  • Nail Polish
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • A Q-tip
  • Something to paint on
I started to write steps down but this project is way to easy to type out steps.

Simply lay out your necklace choose your nail polish color and paint away. When it is dry take your nail polish remover and touch up any spots that may have touched the wet polish.

Tips:
  • If you aren't sure how much you want to paint , start out with less and see what you think as it dries. You can always go back and paint more.
  • The best way to paint the tiny rhinestones is to allow a medium size drop to just run down over the stone.
  • Allow each coat to dry thoroughly to accurately gauge the color. I had to put three coats on because it dried much lighter.

Happy 1st Birthday

{:via:}
Today marks one year of blogging for me.
So thank you for all the love and support. This blog has been so fun and I can't wait for year 2.

In honor of today checkout some of my personal favorite posts:

Book Number 1 of the Year-Check

This was my first read for the year.
One book down 19 to go.
I give this book 3 of 4 stars. {:Only because it wasn't quite as good as The Circle Maker:}

God totally used this book strategically in my life which makes this book special to me. It was definitely the book God chose for me to read at this precise time.  I have had it on my shelf for over a year and a half and just got to reading it and let me tell you why this is so perfect....

The book is all about embracing the next generation and being more jealous for their success' than your own. It's about pushing through the fleshly thoughts that creep in when you see that what they are doing with the position in leadership or life that you once held may be better than what you did in the same position. Rather than allowing yourself to run with those fleshly thoughts you replace them with encouragement and prayer for what they are doing.

The book also talks about how important it is to build foundations for the next generation to stand on. Because it isn't about what we have done; it is about building the church. Therefore we need to build platforms that will be the next generations starting ground. The better we "hand off the baton" the better we are setting them up to take off on the next lap of the race we are all in together.

This book was so timely for me because, as I mentioned in another post, God is rearranging my life. One of the ways he is rearranging it is by asking me to step down as a youth leader. I have been a part of leading the incredible youth of my city for 5+ years now and wow was it hard to give up.
My pastor asked me if I would be willing to help lead in LifeZone at our church which is basically small groups for those 18 and up. Knowing what it says in James 13 about following your leadership, I  accepted. It was in the realization of this transition that I recognized how God had strategically placed this book in my hands for this season. How absolutely perfect of Him.

My favorite quote from the book goes something like this: Leadership does not define your life; His presence defines your life.

My next read: "The Confident Woman" by Joyce Meyer

Adieu to a Fab Long Weekend

This weekend was much needed and it was so great!
You might be thinking I might post about all the places I went and all the things I did, and yes I will some. But, mostly I stayed home because my Gracie girl got fixed Friday.
She was so pitiful when I picked her up on Friday. She would just lay and moan. Poor girl. I am happy to say that she is doing much better now.

Since I wanted to stay home with her I made a diaper bike for my friends shower Sunday.

Then Saturday morning/afternoonish my friend Denise came over for some much needed girl time.
 Then Saturday night I declared a craft night so I made a heart wreath

and turned this atrosity into...
this.
All with just a little fingernail polish.

Then Sunday after an incredible message at church about foundations and what you're building your life on we got to host a shower for this lovely one and her baby to be!

Then on Monday I sat in bed all morning with all of this {:and coffee of corse:}

And I topped of the long weekend with a girls night at my house
{:I even cooked!:}

Sunday Seven 1/20

How in the world is it Sunday again?! This week was quite chaotic, but I think the chaos of it all made it go by even faster.

Today though, is the baby shower for my friend Morgan and her sweet baby to be Madelynn.

Last week I didn't have many pins to choose from for my Sunday Seven. This week I have the opposite problem! Hope you think they are as great as I do.

{:Pinned Here:}
How great is this idea?! I think I would like it better in a solid color but still.

{:Pinned Here:}
Create a design on sandpaper with crayons then transfer it to a shirt using an iron.

{:Pinned Here:}
25 tips to make your groceries last longer. Great pin to read for my goal of being healthier this year.

{:Pinned Here:}
Single serving microwave recipes

{:Pinned Here:}
Manicure in a jar; cute gift idea.

{:Pinned Here:}
So classy and elegant for a girl baby shower

I haven't actually pinned these yet {:but I will today under "My Shoe Obsession":} but I did buy them last night! Very excited about them.

Happy Sunday!

Surrender to Hope

I love that scripture. I highlighted it in my Bible some time last December, and had no idea how much I would need it in the next month. I'm in one of those seasons where God completely rearranges your life. It's not easy to be continually thankful, but I have made the choice that daily I will surrender to joy, His peace, and the Hope I have in Him knowing that one day I will be thankful for every transition in my life during this season.

Just this week I saw the perfect story of Hope on a clip from one of Oprah's new shows.
{:Now if you are like me you probably will want to stop reading here and skip the video, but don't. It's only 5 minutes and it will be worth every minute spent when you stop watching and are filled again with renewed hope:}

Book Review-The Circle Maker by Mark Batterson

This was my first read from author/pastor Mark Batterson.  I had heard people raving over this book, "The Circle Maker: Praying Circles Around Your Biggest Dreams and Greatest Fears" for months and how it revived and renewed so many peoples prayer life. It wasn't until our church started selling the book that I to see what all the talk was about...and that was the end of it. Once I picked this book up it was almost impossible to force myself to put it down to even eat or sleep. It is the first book I have finished in a week in probably years!

When I picked this book up I reluctantly admit that my prayer life was in a bit of a rut. I was praying, but my prayers lacked passion and expectancy of answers. This book changed all of this vastly. After reading only 16 pages I was texting a friend telling them they had to read this book ASAP. In the first ten minutes of reading this book I was excited to pray and creating vivid, precise, God honoring prayers. This book was the driving force behind many of my 2013 goals daring me to dream bigger and have a God vision for my life.

Pastor Mark shares prayers of faith in this book that are encouraging, inspiring, and nothing short of miracles that were granted to him because he dared to dream God sized dreams and prayed with an expectancy for God to answer.

I don't recommend that you get this book the next time you go to the bookstore, I encourage you to click the link above and download it to your kindle or iPad or purchase the book right now. It is that good, I promise!

Sunday Seven 1/13

Hi beautiful! Did you have a good first full week back at work this year? I hope it went as quickly for you as it did for me. Today we are enjoying some beautiful spring like weather! I know it will be short lived, but just another reason I am loving this Sunday.

I had some trouble finding pins I loved this week...did you have any amazeballs pins this week?

{:Pinned Here:}
I was thinking about buying these crates at Michael's and staining them to use as bookshelves in my study rather than buying something. Then adding some wine bottles wrapped in gray twine with flower on them for the top.

{:Pinned Here:}
A great bulletin board idea for February combining the 100th day of school and Valentine's Day

{:Pinned Here:}
Cute way to dress up those plain closet doors

{:Pinned Here:}
Green beans, chicken breast, potatoes, italian seasoning, and butter: bake at 350 for an hour and viola!

{:Pinned Here:}
I love this quote so much I made it the background on my phone.

{:Pinned Here:}
Lovin the layers

2013 Goals - Day 6

Goal 6: To memorize 20 scriptures this year. This sounds terribly simple but I am actually wondering if I can do it. I am definitely going to have to work at this one as well because I am TERRIBLE at memorizing things longer than a week! But I am going to do it! And I am going to start with the one above!

January 8, 2013

2013 Goals-Day 5

Goal 5: Making Healthier Decisions

I know this doesn't sound very original, and well it's not. It is probably the most common New Year's resolution ever. But, I have resolved to just make healthier choices for myself. I am not interested in losing any weight. I just want to leave this year healthier than I started it. So some of my goals within this goal are...

To eat more fruits and veggies.
I rarely even buy fresh fruit or vegetables because since it is only me in the house they go bad so quickly. But this year I am going to try and buy smaller quantities and plan when I will eat them to in an effort not to let them go bad.

Cut waaaaay back on the caffeine.
In the past year I had basically turned into a caffeine addict. I constantly had coffee or diet Mountain Dew in my hand.  This isn't really good for anyone, but I was born with a couple extra passageways in my heart which can cause it to accelerate my heart rate quit dramatically soooooo a ton of caffeine is not a good idea.
But, good news: I have only had one cup of caffeinated coffee since the beginning of the year, AND I didn't have any crazy headaches from caffeine withdrawals.

Get more active.
Now I am now making a goal to go to the gym 5 days a week or to run 27 miles a week, but I would just like to make more of an effort to incorporate some exercise routine in my week. Build healthy muscle on top of these aging bones!
Any exercise routines you love and could recommend?

2013 Goals-Day 4

{:via:}

My next goal is to simply be for people. To encourage people and see the best in them. To love like Christ. To look past what may or may not be in front of me and instead see who they can be, the person God created them to be. That means forgiving more, having more compassion, but most of all it means being a cheerleader to everyone I come in contact with.

2013 Goals-Day 3

Goal #3-To bring at least 20 people to church.

It is so easy to talk about faith and God on here, but truth is, in person I have always struggled with discipleship. This year I told you I have committed to God size dreams that only He can accomplish through me and this is probably the biggest of them all. But, I am pushing my limits and challenging myself to put myself out there and invite people. It is said that out of ten invites only one will come. Well, if that is the case I have to invite 200 people this year to have to reach my goal.
Yep. Defiantly. God. Sized. Dream

But, why not?! If I fall short that is probably still more than I would have brought to church had I not made this a goal for this year.

Sunday Seven 1/6

It's time for the first Sunday Seven post of the New Year.

I'm just going to go ahead and believe that it is going to be the best year yet for both of us. A year of blessings, new adventures, and of corse tons of good pins from Pinterest!

{:Pinned Here:}
A different way of displaying pictures without hanging them all. I like this idea for my living room.

{:Pinned Here:}
Though it may sound strange, don’t wash your jeans. What to do instead? Pack them in a plastic bag and freeze them for a day or two. All unsavory elements will disappear—and your beloved blues won’t have faded or shrunk in the process (like they would in the wash!.--I have a friend who knew one of the sons of Levi Jeans and they told him the same thing. They said jeans should only be washed 2-3 times a year! oops

{:Pinned Here:}
I'm not sure how I am going to do this or where I will put it yet but I WILL be doing this.
Just love the idea.

{:Pinned Here:}
Tons of ideas on this page for towel cakes.

{:Pinned Here:}
So stinkin sweet

{:Pinned Here:}
Exactly how I feel about my Gracie girl

{:Pinned Here:}
I couldn't find a fab shoe pin for this week, but I did find this.
A corner rack where you can hang your outfits for the week. My cousins fiancĂ© is doing this for her in their new house.

Happy Sunday lovely
xoxo
