Last year, I shared with you the revelation I had about working out as an act of worship in the post When Worship Includes Burpees and Kettle Bells. With everyone's New Year's resolutions of getting in shape hanging in the balance, I thought now is the perfect time for a little encouragment.
It is so easy to allow our physical bodies to take a back seat to our spiritual health, emotional health, and our task list for the day that seems to be growing by the second. Yet, we are three part beings - body, mind, and soul. If we want to kick 2017's booty and not let it kick ours {:the way 2016 did:}, each of these areas require our attention on a daily basis.
I am a practical girl. So let's make this a practical post. How are you going to take time each day to prioritise your physical health and well-being? Here are three ways to help you get back on track with your wellness goals for 2017.
  • Buddy Up - We are all called to be physically healthy. Yes, there are some things that are out of our control, but each day we have a choice to be the healthiest version of ourselves. We are not required to be SHAPE magazine models but we are called to wellness. {:You can read more about my 3 daily changes to a healthier you, if you aren't sure where to start:} But, let's not go at it alone. Grab a buddy to go on the journey with, sign up for classes at your local gym {:if you aren't sure how to find classes, just Google something like "spin classes Pittsburgh":} , or start a little iMessage group to hold your girlfriends accountable who are also wanting to make a change in their health this year.

  • Plan Ahead - You know the quote, "if you fail to plan, you plan to fail"? It is so true on our journey to health. Yes, it takes time to plan out your meals and workout schedule for the week, but after some time and committment it just becomes what you do. People fall off the health train the majority of the time because they didn't plan ahead. We end up going for convenience rather than health. Stash some almonds in your purse for snack, pre-cooke cook some breakfast meals so you can just grab and go in the morning. And put your alarm on the other side of the room so you don't snooze away your morning workout. Also, put your workouts in your calendar and make them non-negotiables. You would never schedule another meeting over one you have previously scheduled for work, so don't do it with your workouts.
